Fundraising from Trusts and Foundations

Overview

Trusts and foundations make over £4 billion worth of grants annually and are an important source of income to charities and social enterprises. But in a society reeling from the effects of austerity, Brexit and Covid-19, most funders are now hugely oversubscribed and competition for grants is greater than ever.

This course is for organisations and individuals who have some bid writing experience already but who:

  • Would like to add more quality and strategy to their approach
  • Want to take a step back and consider how to improve their applications
  • Are struggling to repeat previous success in an increasingly competitive and crisis-driven funding climate
  • Would like to gain more insight into the mindset of funders

We’ll be sharing expertise and insights from our combined 20+ years’ experience of trusts fundraising, and the five-stage process developed by Lime Green Consulting to help organisations ensure that they have all the key components in place for bid writing.

Depending on your current position and experience level, you may prefer to check out our Getting Started With Fundraising course instead.

Timetable

This course will be delivered online for the foreseeable future, due to social distancing restrictions. We have divided it into two webinars taking place on the same day, with time for questions throughout. We will be setting you some exercises to do independently between these two webinars. To get the most from the course, and capitalise on the opportunity to get individual feedback from the trainers, we recommend that you set aside this time to complete the exercises.

Morning webinar (10:00-12:00 with a short break midway)

  • The state of the grant funding landscape and the impact of Covid-19
  • Stage 1: Establishing your funding needs
  • Stage 2: Researching funding prospects
  • Stage 3: Developing your case for support

Time to complete independent exercises – we’ll be on hand to answer questions (12:00-12:45)

Peer review session – discussion in small groups to get feedback on what you’ve been working on (14:15-15:00)

Afternoon webinar (15:00-17:00 with a short break midway)

  • Stage 4: Writing strong applications
  • Stage 5: Grant reporting and robust record-keeping
  • An insight into funders: what funders say, what they really mean and what to do about it

“Great day jam-packed with tools and tips. I was lucky enough to attend two of your fundraising days via a grant from a funder. Well worth it. Will be reporting back to the funder that this has been invaluable for us as a small charity. Thank you Lime Green Consulting!” Jo
